The Kinsman Foundation
Areas of Interest
Historic Preservation
John and Betty both were thrilled to participate in the purchase and preservation of the Metropolitan Baptist Church structure by a volunteer nonprofit group who renamed the Portland building The Old Church. Architectural preservation continues to be the Foundation’s primary interest in Historic Preservation.
Native Wildlife Rehabilitation and Appreciation
This interest is fairly narrowly defined to include licensed wildlife rehabilitators and projects or programs promoting public wildlife appreciation. We do not intend this interest to include the preservation or protection of wildlife habitat.
Health Care Policy
Our founders were keenly aware of the lack of respect for the dignity of the individual in the health care system. They were pleased to support OHSU’s Center for Ethics in Health Care to address this issue.
The Betty Kinsman Fund for Arts, Culture and Humanities
This Fund is a part of our general grantmaking activities, and celebrates Betty’s affection for literary arts, theater and music, and photography and fine arts.
Other
The Foundation sometimes initiates grants outside its adopted interest areas.
